AMERICAN STEEL
Photography by Moe DeFronzo
Some cathedrals are built of stone.
Others are built of steel.
Standing inside this fabrication shop, industrial photographer Moe DeFronzo saw something most people would never notice. Towering structural members formed the soaring arches of a cathedral, while a solitary welder worked quietly beneath them. In that fleeting moment, the geometry of heavy industry became something almost reverent.
Cathedral of Steel is a tribute to the men and women whose names may never appear on the finished structures they build, yet whose craftsmanship becomes part of every bridge, stadium, factory, and skyline that shapes our nation.
More than a photograph, it is a reminder that America's greatest achievements begin long before the ribbon cutting—with skilled hands, unwavering precision, and an enduring pride in honest work.
